about

This song is in response to not only Ferguson and countless other stories, but a long history of inequality of multiple groups in this country. This song is about living in a nation, that values your members as less, throws them in jail in a disproportionate number, and then blames them for their circumstance. It's the criminalization of the black nation, using the tools of reCrimination and disCrimination.

Chorus

It’s a stain that never quite fades

Coats every breath with an aftertaste

A faded shadow never goes away

This CrimiNation

Everyday

Like an itchy film

Upon the skin

Or the first original sin

Always in the periphery

But when I face it dead on

Some just can’t see.

They just can’t see

It’s a stain that never quite fades

Coats every breath with an aftertaste

A faded shadow never goes away

This CrimiNation

Everyday

They tell you how

to be and feel

And how your struggle

It isn’t real,

So many steps forwards

and half as many back

So sick of people talking

About the things I lack

So you try

To convince yourself

Put on the good face

Sorrow on the shelf

Then you swallow, when you want to yell

Declare it heaven, When you feel like hell

Bridge:

What causes this blind-ness?

Why can’t we see?

Each other more clearly

Why can’t this be

We’ve come so close…

Progress has slowed…
